How to be there for others…without trying to fix their problems.
When someone you know is living through a challenging time, try these approaches:
✨ Ask: “What do you need from me right now? I want to be here for you and would love to know what that looks like for you”.
✨ Offer phrases like: “I am here for you.” “I really care for you.” “What you are feeling is understandable.”
✨ Visualise a bubble around you when someone starts to share their emotion with you. A place in which you can feel with them, but also a boundary that does not allow their pain to overwhelm you.
✨ If you are still feeling the need to fix someone’s problem, try asking: “Are you looking for solutions or to be heard?”
