Why Practice Makes Progress NOT Perfection.

Enough is Enough! Here's the truth I share with my clients and it has BIG consequences.

Let's talk about the fact that "Good Enough is Good Enough."

My clients and I often discuss perfectionism. It's a common challenge I am sure we have all faced, especially in the charity sector where the drive to make a difference can sometimes lead to an unattainable pursuit of perfection (am I right!?). So, here is the truth I share with my clients - perfect doesn't exist.

This revelation (yeah, I went there) has BIG consequences, but not the ones you'd think. I've spoken with many a charity leader who is concerned that if they pursue a kinder culture, one which puts the well-being of staff first, productivity will plummet. But this simply isn't the case.

👉 If your people are well, they are productive.

👉 If your people are well, they are loyal.

👉 If your people are well, they are innovative.

So, in 2024, ask yourself, are you looking after the people who make everything your charity does possible?

Along with my clients, I am also teaching my daughter, that practice makes progress, not perfection. It's a valuable lesson that applies to our personal lives too.

Knowing when to stop proofreading, editing, or reworking is a skill. Striving for excellence is admirable, and being ambitious is great, but there comes a point where we need to stop and let our efforts be good enough. Whether it's a grant proposal, a campaign pitch, or a project report, recognising that "good enough is good enough" can be incredibly freeing.

So, here's a (not so) gentle reminder: don't let the pursuit of perfection hold you back. Celebrate your progress, embrace imperfection, and know when to press send!
