How to Establish a Positive ‘Work Mode’ after having Time Off.

Returning to work after having time off, particularly over the festive period can feel like such a slog! You may be feeling a little sluggish, a tad overwhelmed, or completely lost as to who you are and what you do.

Here are a few things you can try to help you establish a positive ‘work mode’ at the beginning of 2023!

  1. Create a morning routine.
This could include getting up at the same time each day, making your bed, having a healthy breakfast, reading a book, or having a cup of your favourite coffee. Whatever helps you feel ready for the day.

  2. Take it slow.
I’d imagine you don’t want to fly straight into back-to-back meetings, so block out some time in your calendar for you to catch up on your emails and make a plan for the week, month, or even year!

  3. Prioritise your to-do list.
You don’t need to get everything done on your first day back! Ease into the hard tasks by completing tasks you enjoy or that you can easily tick off. There’s a sense of achievement in that!

  4. Take regular breaks!
Returning to work after having time off is a real gear change for your mind and body, so ensure you are being kind to yourself by taking regular breaks.

  5. Think about what support you need this year…
Is there a book you’ve been meaning to read? A course you’d like to take? A coach you’ve been thinking of working with? Take time at the start of the year to make this happen! It all starts with you.
